Institutional activity remained active in October as mutual funds continued to reshuffle portfolios across large, mid, and small cap stocks. The month saw selective profit-booking and exposure trimming in several widely held names.

Large Cap Stocks

  • Coal India witnessed portfolio trimming in the large cap segment, with 269 mutual funds currently invested in the stock and 96 funds reducing exposure during October. Total mutual fund ownership stood at nearly 56.7 crore shares, reflecting a net decline of about 4.88 crore shares for the month.
  • GAIL recorded selling pressure as 224 mutual funds hold the stock while 71 funds trimmed positions in October. Mutual fund shareholding stood at approximately 67.8 crore shares, supported by a net decline of about 3.52 crore shares.
  • NTPC continues to remain one of the most widely held large cap stocks with 439 mutual funds invested, while 99 funds reduced exposure during October. Total mutual fund holdings stood at nearly 176.0 crore shares, accompanied by a net decrease of around 2.62 crore shares.
  • Axis Bank saw profit-booking activity within mutual fund portfolios, with 556 fund houses invested and 138 funds selling in October. Mutual fund shareholding stood at approximately 99.4 crore shares, reflecting a net decline of 2.17 crore shares.
  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation also saw moderation in institutional exposure as 284 mutual funds remain invested, while 82 funds trimmed holdings. Total mutual fund shareholding stood at around 43.5 crore shares, led by a net reduction of nearly 1.76 crore shares.
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation also saw selling activity from institutional participants, with 253 mutual funds invested and 88 funds offloading positions. Total shareholding stood at around 37.2 crore shares, with a net decline of about 1.54 crore shares.

Midcap Stocks

  • Suzlon Energy recorded the highest selling action in the midcap basket, with 165 mutual funds holding the stock and 49 funds offloading shares during the month. Total mutual fund ownership stood at nearly 60.1 crore shares, accompanied by a substantial net decline of 6.53 crore shares.
  • Ashok Leyland witnessed position reduction with 143 mutual funds currently invested and 48 funds selling in October. Mutual fund shareholding stood at about 46.1 crore shares, supported by a net decline of nearly 2.01 crore shares.
  • NHPC saw cautious unwinding as 109 mutual funds remained invested while 39 funds trimmed holdings in October. Mutual fund shareholding stood at approximately 36.0 crore shares, reflecting a net reduction of nearly 1.68 crore shares.

Small Cap Stocks

  • Sagility saw moderation in institutional allocation, with 88 mutual funds holding the stock and 32 funds trimming exposure during the month. Mutual fund ownership stood at nearly 37.6 crore shares, reflecting a net reduction of about 2.44 crore shares.
  • Ola Electric Mobility witnessed mild selling pressure as 57 mutual funds remain invested while 16 funds reduced holdings. Total mutual fund shareholding stood at nearly 23.3 crore shares, accompanied by a net decline of 97 lakh shares.
  • RBL Bank recorded selling sentiment with 137 mutual funds currently invested and 48 funds offloading positions in October. Mutual fund shareholding stood at about 17.5 crore shares, supported by a net decrease of approximately 52 lakh shares.
  • Hindustan Construction Company saw limited institutional participation, with only 8 mutual funds holding the stock and 2 of them reducing exposure during October. Total mutual fund shareholding stood at around 52 lakh shares, with selling resulting in a net decline of nearly 62 lakh shares.
