Mikel Arteta’s side have made a serious statement of intent by poaching Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze from rivals Tottenham Hotspur. According to David Ornstein, Arsenal have agreed a deal worth the expired £68m release clause in Eze’s contract.
How good is Eberechi Eze?
Eze will forever be remembered as a hero for his time at Crystal Palace, delivering the FA Cup and the Community Shield earlier this month. His 16th-minute goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, a mark of the player’s ability to deliver under pressure, proved to be the winner, bringing home Crystal Palace’s first-ever major trophy
Eze has transformed into a consistent standout performer for Crystal Palace in recent years. Last season, he registered 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for the side. His rise to stardom has even earned him a call-up to the national team. He featured for Gareth Southgate’s England side that made it to the 2024 Euros final.

How will Eberechi Eze fit into Arsenal?
Eberechi Eze, a boyhood Arsenal fan, has previously admitted to “crying for a week” when he was let go by Arsenal’s Academy in 2011. The 27-year-old provides plenty of attacking prowess to an Arsenal side guilty of lacking creativity in previous seasons.
Eze’s best position is as an attacking midfielder; however, his profile allows him to be deployed as a left winger as well. Despite signing Noni Madueke, Arsenal are in desperate need of further strength down the left flank. Martinelli and Trossard’s inconsistency in delivering world-class performances proved costly. Arsenal once again crumbled at the final hurdle, falling short in the Premier League title race for the third straight season
Eze can now challenge to cement that left wing spot as his own alongside Noni Madueke. Mikel Arteta may also use him as a rotation option for skipper Martin Odegaard. Nevertheless, Arsenal were crying out for a player with Eze’s skillset, who can offer creativity and decisive moments in crucial games.
What Next for Arsenal?
Following an injury to Kai Havertz, Eze provides serious attacking depth to Arsenal’s squad. Mikel Arteta now has the privilege to rotate his squad and field a strong XI capable of competing in all major competitions. Eze is set to become Arsenal’s seventh signing, a real statement of intent from Arsenal.
Eze is expected to play his final match for Crystal Palace against Fredrikstad in the Conference League play-off on Thursday. The player will look to join Arsenal after undergoing a medical with the club.
