The 2025 Formula 1 season continues to thrill fans, and after the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, the championship picture is becoming clearer. With tricky weather and intense racing on July 27, Oscar Piastri emerged victorious once again, tightening his grip on the championship battle.

Belgian GP Recap

The race began with heavy rain, which delayed the start by over an hour. Drivers followed the safety car for the opening laps, and actual racing began on lap 5. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri wasted no time, he overtook teammate Lando Norris through Eau Rouge and the Kemmel Straight and stayed in front until the finish.

Norris struggled with tyre issues and made a few small mistakes, which cost him a chance to fight back. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) managed to hold off a fast-charging Max Verstappen (Red Bull) to take third. George Russell (Mercedes) finished fifth, while Lewis Hamilton, starting from the pit lane, recovered well to finish seventh behind Alex Albon (Williams).

McLaren has completely dominated the 2025 season so far. With 516 points, they are 268 points ahead of second-placed Ferrari. Their consistent 1-2 finishes have helped them build a nearly unbeatable lead in the team standings.

What’s Next?

With 11 races left in the 24-race calendar, the focus will now shift to whether Lando Norris can catch Oscar Piastri, and if any other team can close the gap to McLaren. Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull all have strong drivers, but they will need major improvements to challenge McLaren’s dominance.

Conclusion

The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix was yet another sign that McLaren is the team to beat this season. Oscar Piastri’s mature driving and Norris’s consistency have given them a massive advantage. Unless something dramatic happens, this year’s title fight looks like a two-way battle between the two McLaren stars.
