The Central Electricity Authority has notified the National Electricity Plan (NEP) for Transmission, covering the periods 2022-2027 and 2027-2032. For 2022-2027, India plans to add 1,14,687 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines, 7,76,330 MVA of transformation capacity, and 1,000 MW of HVDC bi-pole capacity, with an investment of Rs 4.25 lakh crore as per source.
For 2027-2032, the plan includes adding 76,787 ckm of transmission lines, 4,97,855 MVA of transformation capacity, and 32,250 MW of HVDC bi-pole capacity, requiring Rs 4.90 lakh crore as per sources.
The plan aims to ensure a reliable, efficient, and sustainable electricity system, addressing challenges like Right-of-way and forest clearances, and incorporating advanced technologies for improved infrastructure efficiency. With increasing demand, Indian Transmission manufacturers or operators can benefit from these initiatives.
