Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman of TVS Motor Company, was today presented the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award to honour his contribution to the field of trade and industry. This was presented by the Honorable President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, in the presence of Vice-President of India, Prime Minister, Union Minister for Home Affairs and other dignitaries, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Mr Venu Srinivasan is the Chairman of the TVS Group which includes Sundaram-Clayton and TVS Motor Company. The company is a reputed two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturer globally. Apart from TVS group companies, he has also served as a board member at Tata Sons, Tata Coffee and Oriental Hotels.
Mr Srinivasan pioneered the TQM (Total Quality Management) concept based on the Japanese model, long before most enterprises in India did. His single-minded focus on excellence and quality helped the company reach new heights of success. His efforts led Sundaram Clayton and TVS Motor Company to win the global quality benchmark – the Deming Application Prize in 2002. This is awarded to companies that have achieved distinctive performance improvements through the application of TQM.
Mr Srinivasan is also the Managing Trustee of Srinivasan Services Trust which he set up in 1996. The main focus of this trust lies in the empowerment of women and afforestation. He is known to be passionate about his commitment to society through a unique model of village development in South India.
This is the second such honour for the automotive industry tycoon, after having earlier received the Padma Shri Award for his ‘distinguished service in trade and industry’ back in 2010.
