The sales of cars in India have been low for some companies this year despite a high buying sentiment among consumers. However, many carmakers registered a significant sales growth in India last month as compared to March 2021.

Tata Motors, Skoda and Kia India posted their highest ever monthly wholesales last month, while Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor reported a decline in dispatches to dealers in March as a shortage of electronic components impacted production. The shortage of electronic components continued to impact auto production in the country.

“The ongoing crisis with regard to Russia and Ukraine could, however, impact semiconductor chip production, as Russia and Ukraine are both suppliers of raw materials used in semiconductor manufacturing, and remains monitorable. The impact of the crisis in the form of higher fuel and commodity prices also poses a risk to demand prospects, in case it materialises into a long-drawn-out war,” Rohan Kanwar Gupta, VP and sector head – Corporate Ratings, ICRA, said.
