The domestic equity indices traded in the positive region with major gains in the opening. The Nifty traded near the 21,150 mark. Except pharma stocks, all the sectoral indices on the NSE were traded in green.
At 10:00 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 857.48 points or 1.23% to 70,450.45. The Nifty 50 index advanced 248.05 points or 1.19% to 21,176.35.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.73% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.85%.
The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,204 shares rose and 670 shares fell. A total of 91 shares were unchanged.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) invested in shares worth Rs 4,710.86 crore. However domestic institutional investors (DIIs), ended up net sellers taking out Rs 958.49 crore in the Indian equity market.
The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark federal paper fell 0.66% to 7.211 as compared with previous close of 7.259.
In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 83.3000, compared with its close of 83.4025 during the previous trading session.
The United States 10-year bond yield declined 1.43% to 3.976.
Coming to the commodities market, Brent crude for February 2024 settlement added 20 cents or 0.27% to $74.46 a barrel.
