The opening of DP World’s 3.80 million square foot warehouse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, was announced on Wednesday.
The facility, which went into operation on September 1, will serve companies in and around the region involved in industries like chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electric vehicles, and agriculture.
The company said that with the addition of the new strategically positioned warehouse, which is located on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, DP World’s total warehousing space across India now exceeds 5 million square feet.
According to Anoop Chauhan, Head of Contract Logistics and Cold Chain Solutions at DP World, Subcontinent, the addition of the Bhiwandi warehouse to the company’s network will allow it to assist its customers in achieving greater connectivity between domestic and international markets in addition to expanding the company’s infrastructure.
The building is split into two sections, one of which is designated for the storage of hazardous chemicals. This section has a capacity of 20,000 pallet positions for the normal temperature zone and an additional 1,000 pallet positions for the temperature-controlled area, which can be expanded further as needed.
The second area, 1,50,000 square feet in size, is set aside for non-chemical storage. The warehouse also has a separate 40,000 square foot space with two unique cold storage rooms, according to the statement.
