On Tuesday, Tata Power Delhi Distribution disclosed a strategic alliance with Utiltyx, the Indian division of a US-based software company that specializes in data analytics and cyber security. According to a statement from the company, the partnership aims to improve the organization’s readiness against potential threats and challenges related to cyber security.

According to the statement, the association aims to increase IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) visibility, strengthen Tata Power-DDL’s ability to combat cyber threats, and provide reliable & real-time analytics for its distribution grid, thereby preparing the power distribution infrastructure for growing threats.

Given the threats from some of India’s neighbors, particularly, to the country’s power supply system, this becomes significant. There have reportedly been a few isolated instances of cyber attacks on India’s power supply systems.

According to the company, this partnership represents a significant step towards a smarter, more reliable energy future. Tata Power-DDL will benefit from the partnership by receiving real-time updates on various cyber-physical system vulnerabilities, and an AI/ML-based threat detection system will assist with proactive network scanning for active threat detection and threat prevention.

Ganesh Srinivasan, the CEO of Tata Power-DDL, said, “As we embark on the up-gradation to create utilities of the future, it is essential to create or acquire capabilities to deal with future challenges and build upon the opportunities.

“Beyond technical aspects of the partnership, our tie-up with Utiltyx is to ensure uninterrupted power supply to our consumers by predicting future power demand and mitigating risks through cutting-edge technology,” he added. Konda Ankireddyapalli, Founder & CEO, Utiltyx said, “With this collaboration, we look forward to setting new benchmarks in power distribution and cyber security.”
