In July 2024, Indian equities witnessed a Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) inflow totaling ₹32,365 crore ($3,874 million or $ 3.8 Billion), as reported by the National Securities Depository Ltd. (NSDL).This was the second-largest FPI inflow of the year, following March 2024.
Overall, FPI inflows for the month totaled ₹48,796 crores ($ 5,840 million or $ 5.8 billion), which included debt, hybrid, debt-VR, and equities.
As of today’s date in the calendar year 2024, the cumulative investment by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) amounts to ₹1,35,950 crore, or $ 16,364 million. This total includes investments in debt, hybrid, debt-VRR, and equity funds.
In July 2024, the Sensex closed with a positive growth of 3.43%, while the Nifty 50 index also saw an increase of 3.92%.

Information Technology sector
In July, the Information Technology sector saw the largest inflow of FII capital, totaling ₹11,423 ccrore. At the same time, the S&P BSE IT index registered a 3.43% gain during july month. Notable companies within this sector include TCS, Tech Mahindra, LTIMindtree, and Infosys.
Metals & Mining sector
In July, the Metals & Mining sector saw the second-largest inflow of FII capital, totaling ₹7,310 crores. At the same time, the S&P BSE METAL Index registered a slight decline of 0.85% during july month.
The BSE Metal Index includes major players in the sector, such as Tata Steel, Hindustan Zinc, and JSW Steel, among others.
Automobiles & Ancillaries sector
In July, the Automobiles & Ancillaries sector saw the inflow of FII capital, totaling ₹6,148 ccrore. At the same time, the S&P BSE AUTO Index registered a 5.05% gain during iuly month.
The automobile and auto ancillary sectors constituents of the index include major stocks like Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd ,Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd, Eicher Motors Ltd, TVS Motor Company Ltd and many more.
