Synopsis: Barcelona’s young gun and the Spanish international has suffered a big blow to the knee.Expected to miss five months of action.

Club Statement

The Barcelona midfielder is set to miss five months after undergoing surgery. The Club said  “Gavi has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. Recovery time is estimated at around 4-5 months,”

Injury History

This is not a new occurrence unfortunately. The 21 year old had faced a torn cruciate ligament in 2023 in the same knee. Gavi has not been in action since August, with the club resorting to conservative treatment initially to avoid surgery.

He initially in 2023 had a knee injury called the ACL tear. 2025, he is faced with a medial meniscus tear. These both are tissues or fragments inside the knee, ACL is for complete stability and the meniscus is  the shock absorber of the knee. So you could say that this could stem from the earlier injury, poor recovery/strengthening or just bad luck.

On Gavi’s Mind

Going through one knee injury is devastating let alone two. In blazing form since the past 4 years. Becoming a key player at the ripe age of 21,Gavi will be struggling mentally with back to back injuries. But the good thing about his age is the recovery pace is lightning quick, so we can see him sooner on the pitch than expected.

Absence

Gavi is set to miss the La Liga Games and the Champions League for the 5 month tenure. But is not expected to return until early 2026, which is the year of the World Cup where his nation are the favourites.

Writer’s Take

Going through all these injuries at the ripe age of 21 is tough. But being a global superstar at 17 is tougher,so Gavi does know that with the impact he has created he is set to have downfalls.Which I think he will take on as a challenge and show the world why he broke out to the scene before even getting a driver’s license.
