Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) isn’t just playing the renewable energy game; it’s rapidly rewriting the rules. The Indian giant just smashed through a colossal barrier. It now operates over 15,500 megawatts of clean power capacity nationwide. This milestone firmly cements AGEL’s dominance in India’s energy transition.

Reaching New Peak

AGEL recently energised 1,011.5 megawatts of new solar and wind projects. Because of this, its total operational capacity surged to 15,539.9 megawatts (15.5 GW) as of June 2025.

This massive portfolio powers 7.9 million Indian homes. AGEL contributed over 15% of India’s utility-scale solar installations last year. Furthermore, it provided 12% of the country’s total renewable capacity additions during that period.

World’s largest renewable energy plant

AGEL is constructing something truly extraordinary in Gujarat’s Khavda region. Work progresses relentlessly on what will become the world’s largest renewable energy plant.

This mega-project already boasts 5,355.9 megawatts of operational capacity. Ultimately, Khavda alone is slated to reach a staggering 30 gigawatts by 2029. The site spans a breathtaking 538 square kilometres.

Its sheer scale makes it visible from space. AGEL commissioned the first 5 gigawatts since the project commenced in April 2023. This project will create an estimated 15,200 green jobs upon completion.

Exponential Growth

AGEL’s ascent has been meteoric. Its renewable energy capacity grew at a stunning 42% compound annual rate over five years. This significantly outpaced India’s overall renewable growth of roughly 16%. How did they achieve this? Firstly, strategic acquisitions like the $3.5 billion SB Energy India buy in 2021 fuelled expansion.

Secondly, powerful partnerships provide crucial backing. TotalEnergies holds a significant minority stake. Additionally, Abu Dhabi’s IHC invested $2 billion in May 2022. Thirdly, innovative technology optimises performance.

AGEL runs an energy network operation centre for real-time monitoring. It also deploys waterless robotic cleaning for solar panels. These steps slash operational costs and boost efficiency.

Towards a 50 GW Future

Adani Green Energy shows no signs of slowing down. It possesses a bold, revised target: 50 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030. Khavda will form the cornerstone, delivering 30 GW.

Therefore, significant investment continues. AGEL plans to invest Rs. 2 lakh crore (approx. $24 billion) by 2030. Rs. 50,000 crore is earmarked for projects beyond Khavda.

Sustainability remains core. Its existing plants avoid 21 million tonnes of CO2 annually. They are ‘Water Positive’, ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’, and ‘Single-Use Plastic Free’.

The Path Ahead

Adani Green Energy stands as India’s undisputed renewable leader today. Its 15.5 GW operational base is the nation’s largest. The monumental Khavda project and relentless execution speed set it apart.

Backed by strategic partnerships and focused investment, its 50GW 2030 vision looks achievable. If successful, AGEL won’t just dominate India’s renewable space. It will command a leading position on the global clean energy stage. The journey continues, one massive solar panel and wind turbine at a time.
