Australia’s wicketkeeper batter Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the T20I New Zealand Tour with a right calf strain. He will now miss the three-match series beginning on 1 October 2025. He reportedly felt soreness in his calf after a running session in Perth earlier this week, and the subsequent scans confirmed the injury.

This is the second calf injury he has sustained in less than a year, following the injury he sustained during the Boxing Day Test against India last December. This injury sidelined him for the remainder of the Big Bash League.

Josh Inglis would require at least 3-4 weeks to recover from the strain, and Australia will not be keen on rushing his recovery, keeping in mind their white-ball series against India, which starts on October 19.

Australia Squad News

Inglis adds to a growing list of absentees from the Australia squad. They are already without skipper Pat Cummins, who is out due to lumbar bone stress, and Cameron Green has been asked to focus on Sheffield Shield cricket as part of his Ashes preparation. Nathan Ellis, on the other hand, is unavailable as he is awaiting the birth of his first child.

Given Inglis’ absence, he is replaced by Alex Carey, who made his T20I comeback last month during the South Africa series in Darwin. Carey is likely to slot in as the wicketkeeper, batting at No. 7.

Conclusion

Australia’s squad announcement sets the stage for an exciting Chappell-Hadlee Trophy contest against New Zealand. Both teams will look to gain momentum ahead of bigger tournaments later this year. Josh Inglis’ injury is a setback, but it also opens chances for others to step up. With rivalry, pride, and preparation on the line, this series promises plenty of intensity.
