Synopsis: There are a total of 2 projects in the pipeline to provide direct railway connectivity to Noida International Airport which are a regional rapid transport system corridor and high speed bullet train, both designed to significantly cut travel time to the airport.
With the increasing developments of the Noida Airport, the direct rail connectivity is coming up in two major projects, one is the Ghaziabad-Jewar Namo Bharat corridor and the other is the Delhi-Varanasi-Siliguri bullet train line, to connect the upcoming Jewar international airport in Noida with the entire Delhi-NCR and the major cities across the country.
Estimated Travel Time Benefits
The speed of this Ghaziabad-Jewar Namo Bharat corridor will be around 180 kmph, which will reduce the Ghaziabad to Jewar Airport travel time to 40 to 50 minutes. Apart from this, another proposed line, the Delhi-Varanasi-Siliguri bullet train corridor will reduce Delhi airport’s travel time to only 21 minutes while covering a stretch of almost 70 kms, making it among the fastest corridors to any airport in India proposed in the country.
1. Ghaziabad-Jewar Namo Bharat Corridor
This corridor will become the fourth Namo Bharat RRTS corridor and is being built by National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The work on this approximately 72.44 km corridor is now at Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage and is estimated to be developed at a cost of ₹20,640 crore.
Proposed stations and estimated travel time to Jewar Airport:
Metro and network integration:
- Pari Chowk station will link up with the Noida Metro Aqua Line, while YEIDA Central-Sector 21 will provide direct access to the upcoming Noida Film City
- Passengers from Delhi would be able to reach the corridor through the Delhi Metro Red Line, interchanging at the Ghaziabad Namo Bharat station
Areas Expected to Benefit- Ghaziabad-Jewar Namo Bharat Corridor
2. Delhi-Varanasi-Siliguri Bullet Train Corridor
This corridor often mentioned as the Delhi-Patna or Delhi-Varanasi bullet train project, is proposed to include a stop at Noida International Airport, hence reducing the travel time to approximately 21 minutes. Cities the corridor is expected to connect are- Mathura, Agra, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Buxar, Ara, Patna, Begusarai, Katihar and Siliguri.
Areas Expected to Benefit – Delhi-Varanasi-Siliguri Bullet Train Corridor
The line is also planned to include a station within Gautam Buddh Nagar itself, at Noida Sector-148, in addition to the underground airport terminal, giving local NCR commuters access as well.
Current Status of Both Corridors
- Ghaziabad-Jewar Namo Bharat Corridor: Out of the two, this project is at a more mature phase of the project, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been formulated detailing route and station locations as well as cost estimates. The completion dates for the project have not been provided.
- Delhi-Varanasi-Siliguri Bullet Train Corridor: At an earlier planning stage compared to the Namo Bharat corridor. A related Delhi-to-airport RRTS corridor’s DPR has been approved by the Uttar Pradesh government and sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final clearance, and integration with the bullet train project is being worked out. Route alignment, station locations and timelines for the bullet train line itself are expected to firm up as the project progresses through future approvals.
