In this article, we will be looking in to the infra projects that are ongoing and upcoming, and how they are reshaping urban growth and economic development based on their large-scale projects with clear impacts.  Let’s look into the cities: 

Jaipur

Jaipur metro phase-2: It is an urban mass transit expansion with budget of INR 12,260 Cr. It will be a 42.8kms corridor with 36 stations connecting major residential, commercial and industrial zones. This helps in reduction of congestion, better connectivity across key hubs including airport, institutions and bus terminals. It is DPR approved but waiting for central government approval to start the construction work. 

Jaipur integrated transportation networks: A road and transport infra with multi-project investments (state and central), includes upgraded arterial roads, transit hubs and improved parking/public transport systems to support the urban population. Ensures to reduce traffic and enhance urban mobility. 

Industrial and IT-driven growth zones: An economic and industrial corridor with budget of several hundred Cr range for various SEZs and parks. It will be expansion of Mahindra world city and Sitapura industrial belt helps in attracting IT/tech firms and boosts employment. This will strengthen Jaipur’s role in IT and manufacturing. 

Lucknow

Gomti green corridor: An urban mobility corridor with INR 2078 Cr as budget. It will be a 28 km four-lane corridor along Gomti River, connecting eastern and western Lucknow and cutting travel pressure; facilities included are bridges and lane for pedestrians. It is expected to be completed by Dec 2025, this reduces congestion by 40% and enhances tourism and commerce. 

Lucknow metro expansion: It is a mass transit system with budget of Thousands of Crs. It is going to include expanded metro lines to densify urban mobility. This project is to foster the public transit use. 

Regional connectivity and urban zones: These are expressways and economic zones worth INR 30000+ Cr linking Lucknow with eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. Regional connectivity is boosted with growth in investments and logistics. 

Indore

Indore metro: An urban rapid transit with INR 15000 Cr budget. It is an 33 km network connecting key hubs from railway station to airport, phased execution with AIIB, NDB financing. It will be opened in 2025-26 which is most likely to reduce traffic congestion and transform mobility. 

Super corridor development: An urban expansion business district with multi-hundreds of Cr investments. The new business and residential node attracting IT and corporate firms like TCS/Infosys which is supported by transit. This is going to increase job creation and real estate growth. 

Indore smart city projects: It is an urban infra upgrade with budget unknown but varied projects under smart city mission. Riverfront will be enhanced, command and control centres to be established, and sewerage and utility upgrades. This project will enhance the quality of life and city management.

Visakhapatnam

World bank/IFC-backed sewerage project: Mainly for urban sanitation and utilities with INR 553 Cr. An underground sewer network and treatment plant; which aims to serve current and projected growth of IT and residential zones. The completion is ongoing, but after completion is to ensure improvement in public health, environmental sustainability and urban planning. 

Visakhapatnam port infra projects: It is a port expansion and operational upgrade with INR 230 Cr budget. The dry dock is to be modernised with better safety upgrades and admin facilities. The maritime capacity and commerce will be strengthened, supports Vizag’s logistics hub role. The project was started in Jan 2026. 

Road network expansion: An urban road infra with INR 310 Cr, it is going to be 88 km road improvement under hybrid annuity to boost connectivity within the city. The completion of the project is 1 year from tender stage. This improves intra-city mobility for residents and businesses. 

Nagpur

MIHAN and airport expansion: It is a logistics and aviation infra with multi-thousand Cr as budget. It will be a logistics hub integrating with airport to attract business, warehousing and aviation services. This will establish Nagpur as a central logistics and industrial node. 

Samruddhi Mahamarg: It is a regional expressway with INR 55000+ Cr as budget. This improves the connectivity to Mumbai and boosts trade and mobility, better access for business travellers and freight movement. This will majorly reduce travel time and strengthen economic linkages. 

Data centre and industrial zone investments: It is a digital economy infra with several thousand Cr as budget. The new data centre parks and IT infra plans supporting digital economy growth. This attracts high-value tech jobs.
