Top 8 Indian States with Highest IT Exports
Karnataka
- Exports worth INR 4.09 lakh Cr, Karnataka alone generates 43.4% of the total IT exports with 272.59% growth since 2014. Its contribution remains remarkable and its always know status “Silicon Valley of India”
- The IT exports exceed the combined total of 20 other states and union territories.
- Over the past decade, the state alone has added about INR 30000 Cr in export value annually.
- Karnataka’s growth accelerated after 2020, adding about INR 50000 Cr per year.
Maharashtra
- Exports contribute to INR 1.84 Cr, generates about 19.5% of national exports. The state has leveraged its financial and commercial infra to build an IT sector.
- It grew from INR 61,314 Cr to INR 183,847 Cr by 2023-24. About 199.85% of the growth was focused around Mumbai-Pune innovation corridor.
- They are strong in Fin-Tech services, enterprise solutions and software product development.
Telangana
- This state is the youngest among the top three states and established as formidable IT hub with INR 1.21 lakh Cr in exports, which records for about 12.8% of the nation.
- It achieved 209.08% growth since formation

Tamil Nadu
- Tamil Nadu takes the 4th spot as a key contributor in digital exports after the “Tech Triangle”.
- Reports exports of INR 80,677 Cr (8.6% of the nation)
- Growth reports up to 142.45% over the decade, evolving from INR 33,275 Cr.
- There is consistent growth in Chennai’s IT corridor and SEZs
- Highly-specialized in automotive-tech, business intelligence and enterprise applications.

Haryana
- The state has leveraged its Gurgaon hub to generate INR 53,172 Cr in IT exports (5.6% of the nation).
- Growth reports to 197.96% from INR 17,857 Cr.
- Attracts MNCs due to NCR location as it is a strategic advantage.
- Strong in fields like BPM, consulting services and enterprise solutions.
- Some emerging specialized focus areas are Cyber-security and fin-tech.
Uttar Pradesh
- The most popular state of India has recorded INR 42,416 Cr in IT exports, which records for 4.5% of the nation’s total.
- Growth rate is 208.70% from INR 13,740 Cr in 2014-15
- A tech-corridor being formed between Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi.
- Some emerging specializations are BPO and IT services.
- State policies now look into growth of cities like Lucknow beyond the NCR region.
West Bengal
- This state records of exports of INR 13,418 Cr which is about 1.4% of the nation, it shows a steady progress of growth around 87.43% from INR 7,015 Cr in 2014-15
- Kolkata’s IT hub in salt lake and new town areas are driving regional development
- They are specialized in analytics, ML applications and process automation
- Focus is now more on to the growth of serving eastern markets.
Kerala
- Finally, we have Kerala where growth is smaller and is led by technopark, infopark and cyberpark with annual growth in double digits.
- The steps taken recently are expansion of IT parks, phase-IV techno-city project and targeted export support.
In conclusion, we can see every state has major growth in the IT exports and especially the rising stars in India’s expanding tech which is Gujarat and Delhi with 353.82% growth and capital acceleration at 276.43%, respectively. Then, Uttar Pradesh with 208.70% growth and tier-2 cities include Kerala, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir and Odisha leading to new growth. The software export is state-driven with Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu forming the backbone of the IT exports in India. The GCC has also shifted exports from volume-based to high-value based to put India’s position in the global tech value chain. States that successfully combine talent availability, digital infra and GCC focused strategies will be capturing a larger part of the country’s software export growth.
