Synopsis: Bengaluru’s 10.7-km Mysuru Road-Magadi Road MAR corridor is nearing completion and is expected to open soon. The ₹631-crore ten-lane road aims to reduce congestion and improve travel across the city.

The people of Bengaluru have been waiting for a long time for the Mysuru Road–Magadi Road corridor to open. This road is also known as the MAR corridor and it is going to be open to the public soon, it will help thousands of people who travel every day.

Bengaluru’s new Major Arterial Road (MAR) is one of the biggest infrastructure projects transforming West Bengaluru. The BDA started this project in 2018. At that time the cost was around ₹465 crore after delays like getting the land and moving utilities updated cost is around ₹631 crore. The project includes:

  • 10-lane road network
  • Wide service roads
  • Railway underpasses & bridges
  • Pedestrian and cycle pathways
  • Better connectivity for West & South Bengaluru

This road is expected to become a major alternative route for commuters and a key part of Bengaluru’s future urban mobility plans. This newly developed 10-lane toll-free arterial stretch corridor connects Magadi Road to Mysore Road through Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, improving connectivity across the rapidly growing western suburbs of the city. The MAR corridor consists of flyovers and underpasses which will help reduce the traffic in that part of the city, it also has 64 bridges and special structures to help the water flow and provide support during rains.

The opening will help people who live in areas like Nagarbhavi, Kengeri, Sunkadakatte. People who travel between Mysuru Road and Magadi Road will reach their destination faster. It will also reduce the traffic on the Outer Ring Road which is very busy.

The corridor stretches for nearly 11 km and will help reduce traffic congestion and improve travel for commuters coming from Mysuru Road, Magadi Road, Ramanagara, Mandya, Hassan, and Kunigal routes.

The number of vehicles in Bengaluru is increasing rapidly, so we need roads like the MAR corridor to help people move around the city. Some people are worried about how will the traffic be managed on the smaller roads near the corridor
With the finishing work now nearing completion, the BDA is expected to formally open the corridor soon. Once operational, the project is likely to become a key alternative route for thousands of commuters travelling across Bengaluru every day.
