Synopsis: Following the announcement of the Hebbal Tunnel project, the Karnataka Government taken it’s first step towards the project by commencing a short tunnel and an elevated corridor, let’s look at the details of this latest update.
Following the news about the Hebbal Tunnel Project, the Karnataka government has announced the next steps of the project which would help to ease traffic in North Bengaluru. The construction for a three-lane tunnel with another tunnel and an elevated road will most likely start in a month, this will create a path from Hebbal Flyover, to Mekhri circle and the goal is to make it easier for vehicles to move along this route.
The project is needed because Ballari Road is very congested, there are people moving to North Bengaluru and more traffic going to the airport, the area also has IT parks and office buildings and the government wants to connect the roads, remove traffic jams and make it faster to get from the airport to Central Bengaluru.
Some of the highlights of the latest proposal include
- The tunnel is a part of this proposal, it is 2.2 kilometers long, has two parts, one going in each direction and each part of the tunnel has three lanes.
- There is also a road that is 1.2 kilometers long, this high road connects UAS Quarters to Mehkri Circle.
- When cars come out of the tunnel they can go onto the high road which means they do not have to wait and merge with the traffic on the surface.
- The proposal also includes roads that connect to Jayamahal Road and CV Raman Road, these special roads called ‘rotatory ramps’ will help the traffic spread out better.
- The latest proposal is designed to make it easier to drive on the Hebbal–Mehkri stretch, this stretch of road is one of the busiest in Bengaluru and the proposal will also make it faster to get to the airport and the center of Bengaluru.
