A major FMCG company has entered the healthy drink market by acquiring a majority stake in a joint venture with an Ayurvedic beverage innovator. The collaboration will bring zero-sugar herbal drinks to more people in India and introduce more innovative beverages in the future.

With the market capitalization of Rs. 19,10,109 crore, the shares of Reliance Industries Limited is trading at Rs. 1,411.10, up by 2.13 percent from its previous day’s close price of Rs. 1,381.70 per equity share, and it has reached a high of Rs. 1,414.50 in the same trading day.

Reliance Consumer Products, the FMCG subsidiary of Reliance Industries, has forayed into the healthy functional beverage space through the acquisition of a majority stake in a joint venture with Naturedge Beverages. 

Naturedge Beverages, founded in 2018 by Siddhesh Sharma of the Baidyanath Group, specializes in combining Ayurveda and modern beverages. Its flagship brand, Shunya, is a zero-sugar, zero-calorie herbal drink infused with super herbs such as Ashwagandha, Brahmi, Khus, Kokum, and Green Tea that has gained significant consumer traction in India. Through this JV, Reliance Consumer Products aims to offer consumers a range of herbal-natural beverages.

Management Views

According to Ketan Mody, Executive Director of RCPL, the joint venture with Naturedge expands the company’s beverage portfolio with Ayurvedic-inspired functional drinks. He stated that Shunya has quickly gained popularity among health-conscious consumers and is consistent with RCPL’s vision of providing affordable, high-quality products while promoting India’s legacy, with plans for further innovations in herbal-natural beverages.

Siddhesh Sharma, Director of Naturedge Beverages, stated that the partnership with RCPL validates Shunya’s growing consumer acceptance and will contribute to the brand’s pan-India expansion.

He emphasized that super-herbs such as Ashwagandha and Brahmi provide natural stress relief while also increasing strength and focus, and that Shunya will now be available to consumers across the country thanks to RCPL’s extensive distribution.
