The shares of the Small-cap company, specializing in integrated biorefinery operations, specifically focusing on bio-based chemicals, ethanol, and sugar production, hit a 5 percent upper circuit upon receiving a Chinese patent for an Anti-Cancer Molecule, which has shown strong lab results against breast and prostate cancer.

With a market capitalization of Rs. 1,672.43 Crores on Tuesday, the shares of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd hit a 5 percent upper circuit after making a high of Rs. 326.80 compared to its previous closing price of Rs. 311.25.

Godavari Biorefineries Ltd, through its biotech division Sathgen Therapeutics, has been granted a Chinese patent for its breakthrough anti-cancer molecule, HYDROXY-1,4-NAPHTHALENEDIONE

This novel compound has shown strong lab results in inhibiting cancer and cancer stem cells, particularly in breast and prostate cancers. The patent, issued by China’s national patent office (CNIPA), strengthens the company’s intellectual property portfolio and global research footprint. 

Executive Director, Godavari Biorefineries Limited, Dr. Sangeeta Srivastava, emphasized that this achievement reflects the company’s commitment to high-quality science and innovation beyond its traditional green chemistry roots. 

With exports to over 20 countries and a lead molecule currently in clinical trials, Godavari Biorefineries is expanding its focus into life sciences, aiming to develop impactful cancer and antiviral therapies that address critical global health needs.

Financials & Others

The company’s revenue declined by 5.9 percent from Rs. 625.74 crore to Rs. 588.75 crore in Q4FY24-25. Meanwhile, the Net profit rose from  Rs. 65.17 crore to  Rs. 71.93 crore during the same period.

In Q4 FY25, Godavari Biorefineries’ revenue came mainly from three segments: Distillery contributed the highest at 42%, followed by Sugar & Co-Generation at 33%, and Bio-based Chemicals at 24%.
