According to Indiaai.gov, India’s artificial intelligence (AI) sector is poised for significant growth, projected to reach $7.8 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.2% from $3.1 billion in 2020. The AI market is expected to contribute approximately $500 billion to India’s GDP, highlighting its transformative potential across various industries. 

Ten companies have been shortlisted for the final bidding to procure 10,000 GPUs under the IndiaAI Mission. Bidding begins on January 22, and the results are expected within a week, marking a key step in advancing India’s AI infrastructure. 

Moreover, GPUs are essential for AI due to their ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, making them significantly faster than regular processors. This speed is critical for efficient training and running AI models, which require rapid processing of large data sets. 

The IndiaAI Mission has allocated 44% (Rs 4,563.36 crore) of its Rs 10,371.92 crore budget to establish compute capacity exceeding 10,000 GPUs over five years, aiming to bolster artificial intelligence infrastructure and drive advancements in AI technology across the country.
