Synopsis:
Airtel’s leap into ADAS and precision tech could redefine growth, driving innovation across mobility, logistics, tolling, and agriculture.
A telecom giant is making waves beyond traditional connectivity as it explores precision technology and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) technology. This move can be viewed as a potential driver of long-term growth, leveraging new applications across industries from logistics to autonomous mobility.
Bharti Airtel Ltd., with a market capitalization of Rs. 11,26,445.57 crore, opened at Rs. 1,895 and reached a high of Rs. 1,907.55 during intraday trade, marking a 0.35 percent increase from its previous close of Rs. 1901.30.
Airtel’s Entry into Precision Tech
Airtel Business has partnered with Swift Navigation, a global leader in precise-positioning technology, to launch India’s first AI/ML-powered, cloud-based location service, Airtel-Skylark Precise Positioning Service.
The service enhances standard Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) accuracy by up to 100 times, providing centimetre-level precision for mission-critical, location-based applications.
By integrating Skylark with Airtel’s pan-India 4G/5G network, the service promises a reliable and scalable platform for large-scale deployment. The initial rollout will cover a 35,000 km² network around the National Capital Region (NCR), with plans to expand to other parts of India in phases.
Swift Navigation’s technology is already powering over 10 million vehicles and devices globally, including deployments by automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, robotics companies, and IoT system integrators.

Transformative possibilities of Airtel – Skylark Precise Positioning Service
In automotive and transportation, Airtel-Skylark will power advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and fully autonomous vehicles, enhancing road safety, traffic efficiency, and operational reliability.
For mobile and consumer applications, it provides highly accurate, real-time location data for navigation, ride-sharing, and fitness apps, enabling precise turn-by-turn directions, exact pickup points, and dependable activity tracking on smartphones and wearables.
The service also enables smart tolling, allowing seamless, barrier-free or lane-level toll collection without relying on costly infrastructure such as gantries, cameras, or readers. In logistics and last-mile delivery, it supports precise fleet management, route optimisation, and accurate arrival-time predictions for vehicles, drones, and delivery robots, particularly in dense urban environments.
For railways, Skylark enhances train positioning and control systems, improving safety and operational efficiency. In agriculture, the service drives precision farming by providing exact positioning for automated tractors, seeders, and sprayers, empowering farmers to optimise water, fertiliser, and pesticide usage, boosting crop yields, and promoting sustainable practices across India’s farming landscape.
Comments from the management
Sharat Sinha, Director & CEO – Airtel Business, said: “In a country like ours, with intricate lanes and by-lanes, every centimetre makes a difference in identifying a precise location or address, especially for critical services like first responders.
By partnering with Swift Navigation, we are proud to launch India’s first cloud-based, AI/ML-powered GNSS corrections service, delivering centimetre-level precision. This breakthrough technology will not only revolutionise emergency responses and set new benchmarks for industrial applications but will also fast-track innovations in use cases like autonomous mobility and satellite-based toll collections.”
Holger Ippach, EVP of Product & Marketing – Swift Navigation, added: “We are thrilled to partner with Airtel to bring Skylark to India. By leveraging Airtel’s presence across IoT solutions and services, we are enabling businesses and developers across the country to seamlessly adopt precise positioning for automation and autonomy.”
Outlook
Airtel’s foray into precision technology through the Skylark partnership demonstrates a strategic shift beyond conventional telecom services, signalling its intent to diversify into high-growth, technology-driven sectors.
By enabling applications in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous mobility, smart tolling, logistics, and precision agriculture, the company is tapping into multiple emerging markets with strong long-term potential.
This move not only strengthens Airtel’s technological leadership but also opens new revenue streams, positioning the company to accelerate growth while setting benchmarks in India’s high-accuracy, location-based services ecosystem.
