Summary– That heart-wrenching feeling when a movie is being left on a cliffhanger, but it is more upsetting when you are not on the same page as to how it ended. Here are the top 5 movies that really deserved a better ending. If the ending were different, these movies could have topped the chart (not that they didn’t).
There are a few movies with excellent stories, and in those movies, some of them have endings that just do not sit right. Maybe the audience wanted a happier ending or something along the lines of a lighter note. In this list of top 5 Films, we will be discussing all about film endings and whether or not they deserved a happy, sad or simply a different angle.
5. All the Bright Places (2020) – Confusing
Most of the people who had read the book were already surprised when the filmmaker Brett Haley omitted the few scenes from the end. The confusion arises when Theodore’s character starts to unveil. Well, Finch‘s character gets a little bit blurry compared from the start, the audience has been focusing on the character of Violet, who is going through a lot herself. The viewers are lifted as the movie progresses, with both characters beginning to bond, but the sudden disappearance and scenes from Finch’s family take the film to a completely different direction. It is fine for a character to take a 360 in the movie; however, his character was loved most and would have been great if it were kept as it is, and the movie focused solely on Violet’s weight of emotions.
4. Love & Other Drugs (2010) – Too Hazy
The entire plot of the movie is related to Parkinson’s, but at the end, the movie just ends, unlike other rom-com film endings. This particular movie was loved due to its educational value behind the script. Many people who didn’t know about the condition started researching about it, and isn’t this one good way a movie should have an impact on people? Instead of ending the movie just like that, there could have been a few scenes where they show how the disease progresses and what the complications are. Even if the central theme of the movie was love, there could have been many scenes added with the disease progression included, but keeping the central theme as love.
3. Five feet apart (2019) – It Didn’t Make Sense
This movie is also one of those movies with confusing film endings. The book had a more proper ending plot than in the movie. Many claim that in the movie, the ending was better because it leaves room for William’s return. Even when the idea was for a sequel, the end story could have been less heavy. The romantic scenes and the abandoned plot were a bit out of line. If it had a different angle or maybe a little bit of elaboration at the end, this movie would have been easy to understand. It is not that the audience did not get what the film was trying to convey but many preferred a clearer ending. Stella’s character was well received till the end but William’s abandonment left many questions unanswered. Thus, making it to our list of film endings that deserved a better curtain closing scene.
2. The Fault in Our Stars (2014) – Way Too Much Diverted
From writing eulogies for each other to one attending the funeral, whatever tragic rom-com plot and film endings should have, The Fault in Our Stars had it all. However, the introduction and ending literally had a stark difference. Well, it did well at the theatres, but this ending did not do much justice to the commendable start. This does not mean that the current ending is not worthy; it is still favorable, but an ending where they both survived battling their condition would have been better. It doesn’t mean that their condition magically improves, but keeping Gus alive would have so much weight on this rom-com.

1. Me Before You (2016) – Just too Hard to Comprehend
This movie has received tremendous love from the fans. The story, plot, and comedy are perfect in their own way. But many were uncertain with the ending. Various fan fictions revolve around Will being alive and his condition improving. Well, it is not a bad one, as many loved the couple on screen and wanted to see a happier ending. Sure, the current ending symbolises a deep message – that no matter how hard you try, sometimes in life you just cannot turn the tables. It indeed gives a beautiful message, but if the angle was that of Will changing his mind at the very end, the movie might have had a lighter ending note.
