Team India moves into third place in the ICC World Test Championship points table after their heroics at The Oval on Monday. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled incredible spells to secure India a six-run victory. The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is now shared between England and India after the series ended in a 2-2 draw.
India’s position improved as they swapped positions with the series hosts, England. England ranks below India as they incurred a two-point penalty for slow over-rate during the Lord’s Test.
Australia stands strong at the top after winning all three matches played against the West Indies in this cycle. Sri Lanka also ranks above the Men in Blue, having not lost a single match. A victory and a draw against Bangladesh earned them 16 points and a 66.67% PCT.
Position | Team | Played | Won | Points | PCT(%) |

How Are The Rankings Determined For The WTC 2025-27?
The participating teams are awarded points for their victories, draws, and losses. The rankings are then calculated using a Points Percentage System (PCT). With this system, teams are ranked based on the percentage of points they have won and not on their absolute point totals. At the end of the cycle, the Top two ranked teams progress to the final in 2027.
- For every victory, the team is awarded 12 points.
- For every tie, the team is awarded 6 points.
- For every draw, the team is awarded 4 points.
- For every loss, the team is awarded 0 points.
- Points are deducted for slow over rates
- PCT is calculated by dividing the points won by a team by the total points they could have won (assuming they won all their games and earned 12 points for each). This resultant figure is then multiplied by 100 to arrive at a percentage.
A Quick Example
Suppose India plays 6 Tests in the WTC cycle:
- They win 3, draw 1, and lose 2
- Points earned:
- 3 wins = 3 × 12 = 36
- 1 draw = 4
- Total = 40 points
- Maximum possible points from 6 matches = 6 × 12 = 72
- PCT = (40 ÷ 72) × 100 = 55.56%
- This 55.56% is what determines India’s position on the WTC table — not the raw 40 points.
