Most hat tricks happen in a cricket match, but in the Indian Premier League (IPL), it is something to be won by the Seventh Heavens. In a tournament famous for its reigning power hitters, bowlers hardly have a margin of error. Hence, what makes his multiple IPL hat tricks more legendary is the sparseness of their occurrence in cricket almost across the globe.
Here are the bowlers who took several hat-tricks in IPL history:
1. Amit Mishra-3 Hat Tricks
If there were anyone to be found as the king of spinning magic in the IPL, it would be Amit Mishra. He is the veteran leg-spinner who has the record of having scored the total number of hat-tricks in the tournament (that is three of them, for three different franchises!).
• First Hat-Trick, 2008 (Delhi Daredevils vs Deccan Chargers) : Against an incredibly close last over, Mishra defended 15 runs and completed a hat-trick doing so to end up with amazing figures of 5/17. Delhi won by 12 runs.
• Second Hat-Trick, 2011 (Deccan Chargers vs Kings XI Punjab): With Punjab inside the 16th over, he cleared through the middle-order to finish with 4/9 and crown being part of a Deccan victory.
• Third Hat-Trick, 2013 (Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Pune Warriors India): Four wickets fell prey to Mishra; one included a hat-trick during the 19th over while Pune required just 14 from 12, leading SRH to a spectacular win; earlier he had scored an important 30 runs.
Amit Mishra remains the only player to have had three successful hat-tricks in IPL history.
2. Yuvraj Singh: 2 Hat-Tricks
Yes, you read that right Yuvraj Singh, the swashbuckling left-handed, also counts to a handful who have multiple hat-tricks in the IPL. Both were taken in the IPL 2009, just 17 days apart!
• First Hat-Trick against RCB, (2009): While Indians became Kings XI Punjab’s left-arm spinner, Yuvraj cast aside Robin and Kallis in the 12th over and came back from another batter to throw up his hat-trick ball. Punjab eventually lost despite Yuvi getting Player of the Match award.
• Second Hat-Trick- against Deccan Chargers (2009): Yuvraj’s spree of 3 wickets-with-the-ball one of which came in the 14th-over innings- dismantled Deccan’s pursuit of a modest 135 score and led to a cliffhanger one-run win.
Two hat-tricks and two match awards Yuvraj proved he’s more than just a six-hitting machine.
3. Yuzvendra Chahal-2 Hat Tricks
You may also want to add the one with a fair number of scars on your back, Yuzvendra Chahal. At the moment, the leading wicket-taker ever in the IPL has now entered the two-hat-trick club along with the rest of the elite, with the two events separated by three years and delivered for different franchises.
• First Hat-Trick-2022 (Rajasthan Royals vs KKR): With this effort, Chahal not just made tempests, winning noticeable applause for him, but also completely swung the game into the hands of Rajasthan Royals as he captured all to himself precisely in the 17th over with two added wickets in his four-for-earning of 5/40.
• Second Hat-Trick – 2025 (Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings): Not a great first senior cap for PBKS, but a rampaging Chahal in the 19th over, claiming MS Dhoni, along with three others, to finish with 4/32, proved to limit CSK to below 200.
Yuzi’s capability to manage the game-changing spells has made him one of the most dangerous IPL bowlers.
Honorable Mentions
Though there are only three bowlers in total who bagged multiple hat-tricks in IPL till date, a number of bowlers would top it off just by one: Lakshmipathy Balaji, Andrew Tye, and Samuel Badree, among others. However, the prize of breaking into the ‘multiple hat-tricks’ club is one truly reserved for the geniuses brought forth by the IPL.
Final Word
These bowlers have left their marks on IPL folklore with their magical hat-tricks-not once but multiple times-in a league full of batting glory. As the tournament grows, fans can only wonder: Who will be the next to join this elite club? Stay tuned for more IPL records, stats, and magical moments There’s no telling what can happen in cricket in a single over.
