Recap/Origin of the 2019 Pandemic

During the joyful month of Christmas December 2019, a new virus came into the limelight named SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) with the first known cases of the novel coronavirus being emerged and reported in Wuhan China, earlier symptoms of fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.

The cases were linked to the life-threatening virus that likely emerged from the seafood market in Wuhan and were linked to the uneven food culture of the people eating uncooked raw meat being of organisms that are host to millions of viruses deadly to mankind.

Enroute Pandemic

Due to a lack of early precautions, constraints, and communication by the govt and W.H.O., the virus which could have been contained within the borders spread across boundaries throughout the world by means of direct contact, cross-border travel, and many more.

Following this, The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and officially declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. This led countries to implement widespread lockdowns, travel restrictions, and social distancing measures to curb the virus’s spread, which was already in action giving a deadly blow to mankind, the economy, and many more affecting daily lives.

The Impact

COVID-19 has led to millions being affected globally with severe cases of respiratory problems, pneumonia, cardiovascular issues, kidney failures, and many critical issues requiring hospitalization and ventilator support, also leading to long-term effects for some individuals, emphasizing the need for prevention and early treatment.

Global stock markets experienced sharp declines, leading to recessions in many countries. Economic Fallout occurred for industries such as travel, hospitality, and entertainment leading to significant losses, along with Governments implementing stimulus packages to mitigate the economic impact.

The pandemic profoundly shaped policies, behaviors, and technologies, leaving lasting effects on the global society.

Fast forward to 2025: A New Pandemic Incoming?

As per sources after 5 years of nightmare that shook the world, a new mysterious virus named “human metapneumovirus” (HMPV) has likely emerged, it is a respiratory virus causing flu-like symptoms. The virus, which spreads through droplets and close contact, primarily affects children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.

The Chinese government is likely facing an outbreak in several parts of the country, with citizens being asked to wear face masks and wash their hands frequently to reduce the spread and contain the virus, so that it may not cause a new global pandemic.

As per the CDC website in China, the human metapneumovirus is classified as an RNA virus. It is a member of the Metapneumovirus genus, Pneumoviridae, Dutch researchers initially discovered it in 2001 when examining samples of infants who had respiratory illnesses.

Sources say The elderly, immunocompromised, and children are the groups most prone to contract of HMPV. It may show up as normal cold symptoms including fever, congestion of the nose, coughing, and wheezing, But in extreme situations, it can also lead to pneumonia and bronchitis.

There likely are no vaccines against HMPV and the treatment is usually limited to easing symptoms.
