On the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for January delivery dropped by Rs 92, or 1.67 per cent, to Rs 5,432 per barrel with a business volume of 3,585 lots.

Analysts said the fall in crude oil futures was due to trimming of positions by traders amid a weak spot demand.

However, globally, West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading 1.20 per cent lower at USD 71.51 per barrel.

Meanwhile, Brent crude, the international benchmark, was quoting 1.21 per cent lower to trade at USD 74.11 per barrel in New York. PTI SHW RUJ RUJ
