Telangana came into existence in June 2014 as a result of the split of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state, with Hyderabad designated as its capital. Hyderabad continues to be a major centre for information technology, pharmaceutical industries, roads and highways. It secured second position among the World’s Top 20 cities in JLL’s City Momentum Index 2019.

Telangana starts off 2026 with the state government aggressively promoting the ’Telangana Rising 2047’ vision and its ambitious goal of building a $3 trillion economy at the World Economic Forum(WEF) annual meeting in Davos between 19-23 January 2026.

Upcoming Mega Projects in 2026

1. Railway Station Redevelopment Project

The Railway Station Redevelopment Project is a key part of the state’s infrastructure push under national schemes like the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Estimated cost of the project is ₹2,750 crores for 40 stations. Key goals for 2026

  • Modernisation of over 40 stations, including upgrading of waiting areas, improved accessibility for differently abled passengers, lifts, escalators, better lighting etc.
  • Work at key stations such as Hitec city to be completed by February 2026 and Malakpet station modernisation to be completed by June 2026. Overall the project aims to boost the image of Telangana’s rail network.

2. Nagpur-Vijayawada Expressway

The Nagpur-Vijayawada Expressway is being developed as a high-speed, access controlled corridor for connectivity between central and southern India. The estimated cost of the project is ₹14,500 crore

  • Passing through Telangana, the project is expected to play a crucial role in improving interstate mobility and freight movement by 2026.
  • The expressway aims to support industrial growth, especially in manufacturing, agriculture, and warehousing sectors along the corridor.

3. Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2

Estimated cost of the project: ₹24,269 crore for the overall 76.4km Phase 2A and ₹19,579 for Phase 2B

  • The Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2 is a major expansion of the city’s public transport system. It is now designed to connect with the underserved parts of Hyderabad and reduce congestion on roads.
  • Phase 2 aims to add approximately 76.4km of new metro lines in the initial stage. This  extension will improve public connectivity by covering across city, connecting areas like Nagole, Shamshabad, Kokapet, Old city and Patancheru
  • It is planned to link residential areas, employment centres, and key transit points such as Rajiv Gandhi International airport.

4. Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit

Revised Estimated costs of the project: ₹716 crore. The Kazipet railway manufacturing unit in Telangana is a landmark for infrastructure projects. The facility is being built on 169 acres in Warangal district. Key targets for 2026 are

  • The unit is scheduled to start manufacturing by mid 2026. Once active the plant will be capable of building a variety of railway equipment, from conventional wagons and rolling stock to electric train sets etc.
  • With operation in 2026, the manufacturing unit is projected to generate significant employment opportunities in the Warangal region.
  • The unit will also contribute to India’s rail export potential, helping the country emerge as a supplier of railway assets in international markets.

5. Hyderabad Regional Ring Road

Revised estimated costs around ₹15,627 following a decision to upgrade the project from a four-lane to a six-lane corridor.

  • RRR is planned as a major expressway around Hyderabad to ease congestion, and increase connectivity with surrounding districts.

  • Stretching roughly around 340km, the RRR is designed to loop well beyond the city’s current Outer ring road.

6. Hyderabad- Indore Expressway

The estimated cost of the project is ₹10,000-₹15,000 crores. The Hyderabad-Indore Expressway is an infrastructure corridor being built to link Hyderabad with Indore, passing through parts of Maharashtra. This nearly 713km long access-controlled highway will be an important north-south road link in central India, which strengthens connectivity. Key Goals are:

  • The expressway is aimed to improve road connectivity between southern and central India by offering high-speed, access-controlled routes.
  • The project is designed to strengthen ties between Telangana, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh improving market access.
  • By enabling quicker and more reliable routes for transportation of goods, the corridor is expected to lower logistic costs and support industrial, agricultural and warehouse activities across Telangana and neighbouring states.

7. Green Pharma City

Estimated costs of the project: ₹16,395 crore. Target investment is $25 billion over 5 years

  • The Green Pharma City is a transformative life sciences and Pharmaceutical industrial hub as part of Telangana’s broader strategy to build a globally competitive healthcare and biotech ecosystem.
  • Green pharma city is expected to attract large scale domestic and international investments, creating high skilled jobs and supporting allied industries by 2026.

8. World Trade Centre, Shamshabad

Overall planned investment of the project is approximately of ₹4000 crore. World Trade Centre, Shamshabad is a flagship global business hub which is a part of prestigious World trade Centres association network, which links commercial and trade centres across more than 320 locations in over 90 countries. Goals for 2026:

  • By 2026, WTC Shamshabad aims to be fully functioning, facilitating trade events, B2B matchmaking, industry summits, and investment promotion activities that connect Telangana with global markets.
  • Through its WTCA membership, the centre seeks to expand engagement with global partners, enable Telangana enterprises to enter international markets and attract multinational corporations to set up offices.

9. Hyderabad-Mumbai Bullet Train Project

Revised cost is estimated to be ₹1.98 lakh crore. The Hyderabad-Mumbai Bullet train is a proposed high speed rail corridor designed to connect Hyderabad with Mumbai through a fast, modern railway system.

  • The emphasis is expected to be on advancing detailed project reports, refining route alignments, and progressing land and environmental assessments required for formal approvals.
  • The project aims to introduce advanced rail technology, improved safety systems and efficient long-distance travel between two major economic and commercial hubs.

10. Hyderabad Futuristic Future City

Estimated cost of the project is ₹1.6-2.5 lakh crore. Hyderabad Futuristic Future city, also known as Future City Telangana is envisioned as India’s first net zero greenfield smart city which is a large-scale urban development designed to set new benchmarks in sustainable living, innovation and economic growth. Spanning around 30,000 acres on the southern outskirts of Hyderabad, this city is planned to integrate modern infrastructure with advanced industries, green spaces and smart utilities. Goals for 2026-

  • By 2026, they are focusing on the establishment of the Future City Development Authority office, policy framework and foundational infrastructure which would make the project ready for execution.
  • Construction of major arterial road projects linking the city to Hyderabad’s existing transport networks are expected to progress, which would improve the regional access and prepare the ground for future transit services.
  • The development also aims to draw interest from the global investors, technology firms, and industry leaders as a future ready innovation and business hub tailored to modern economic sectors.
