HDFC Bank Revises Regalia Gold & Diners Benefits: Lounge Access, Reward Points and Other Key Changes – Best Alternative Cards

by Trade Brains | Apr 8, 2026

Credit Card

Synopsis: HDFC Bank has revised the benefits of the HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card and the HDFC Diners Club Privilege Credit Card, which now offer more conditional structure and lounge access based on spending requirements, along with additional benefits. The revised rules will come into effect on May 15, 2026, while some lounge-related changes will apply from July 1, 2026.

HDFC Bank Regalia Gold and Diners Club Privilege occupied the ideal position between premium credit cards and basic credit cards because they provided premium benefits without charging premium prices. The equilibrium between these two forces has started to swing in a different direction. HDFC has updated its 2026 plan by changing important benefits, which now limit reward value and require spending to access lounges, reducing the overall value for customers. What once felt like a “smart upgrade” has now transformed into a standard mid-level credit card.

Key Changes in HDFC Regalia Gold & Diners Cards

HDFC Bank published its latest update, which includes various changes to its rewards program and lounge access rights and its fee structure. The changes will start to take effect on May 15, 2026, while the lounge-related updates will start on July 1, 2026.

1. Reward Points Earning Revised

HDFC Bank has changed its base reward earning system for its Regalia Gold and Diners credit cards. Users earned 4 Reward Points for every ₹150 spent, but this system changed from May 15, 2026, 5 Reward Points for every ₹200 spent. The two reward systems look similar at first, but they enable cardholders to receive different point earnings because the first system provides more benefits.

2. Lounge Access Now Spend-Based

The period of free lounge access will end on July 1, 2026, because automatic access will no longer operate. Cardholders must now spend ₹60,000 in a calendar quarter to unlock up to 3 domestic lounge visits in the following quarter. The previous system allowed users to access lounges without restrictions, but this new system requires users to spend money before they receive benefits, which will affect those who visit occasionally the most. This rule will apply from July 1, 2026.

3. Additional Charges Introduced and Revised

The bank has introduced new charges while updating existing ones. A ₹199 fee will now apply for card re-issuance in case of loss, theft, or damage. The bank has established dynamic currency conversion (DCC) charges at 1.75% for all international transactions that use INR as their conversion currency. The card system changes bring higher monthly costs, which will impact customers who frequently conduct international transactions.

4. Travel Benefits Made Conditional

HDFC Bank has implemented a new travel benefits program that offers customers more organized benefits through specific eligibility requirements. Cardholders can now choose any two complimentary benefits per quarter, including options like spa access, airport transfers, buffet offers, and hotel room upgrades. Users now need to provide a valid boarding pass to access these benefits because they are no longer freely accessible and now require conditions to be met. It has transitioned from providing unlimited benefits to offering a system that limits access to benefits based on actual usage. While it maintains its existing perks, it now offers them through restricted access, which makes it more difficult for users to obtain them.

5. Annual Fee: No Change, But Lower Value

The HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card charges an annual fee of ₹2,500, which becomes free after reaching ₹4 lakh in yearly purchases. The card now provides reduced benefits that necessitate meeting specific conditions, rendering it less valuable to customers who pay the same price.

6. Diners Club Privilege: Similar Changes Applied

The HDFC Diners Club Privilege Credit Card has also undergone similar revisions, aligning it with the broader changes across HDFC’s card portfolio. Users must spend ₹60,000 during the quarter to gain access to lounges, which allows them to use 3 lounge visits (2 domestic and 1 international) in the next quarter.

The card operates with an annual fee of ₹1,000, which becomes free when customers spend ₹3 lakh within a year. The updates show that cardholders need to make higher expenditures now to obtain benefits that they could previously access without difficulty.

Conclusion

The latest update from HDFC Bank makes one thing clear: the value equation has changed. The HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card and HDFC Diners Club Privilege Credit Card still provide useful benefits to customers, but the cards now require customers to spend more money and complete additional tasks before they can access the benefits.
